Aluminium gravel bike equipped with Shimano's exceptional GRX820 groupset, Easton EA70 wheelset, and hydraulic disc brakes.
Introducing the second generation of the Merida Silex. Unlike traditional designs that modify road or cyclocross bikes, the original Silex was built from the ground up with modern MTB-inspired geometry, featuring long top and head tubes and a short stem for agile, confidence-boosting off-road handling. This innovative approach was highly acclaimed by both the press and cyclists, celebrated as the most comfortable and versatile bike Merida had ever produced.
As gravel riding has evolved, branching into racing and adventure categories, the Silex has retained its focus on the spirit of adventure and camaraderie. The new Silex maintains the core qualities that made the original successful but enhances its off-road capabilities with a 1.5-degree slacker head angle and larger volume tyres. All frames come with five sets of bottle bosses, and the aluminium frame includes rack mounting points for various luggage options, internal routed dropper posts, and dynamo system compatibility.
Just before its official launch, Matej Mohoric secured a victory at the 2023 Gravel World Championships on the new Silex, showcasing its impressive off-road prowess. The second generation also addresses aesthetic preferences, the previous long headtube design has been refined with a new fork design, allowing for suspension fork swaps without altering geometry, resulting in a more visually appealing longer fork and shorter headtube.
To complement its enhanced off-road capabilities, all Silex models (except the 200) now feature powerful hydraulic disc brakes with 180mm rotors. The calipers are mounted on the chainstay for better brake force dissipation using the flat-mount standard for a sleek, flush fit. On the carbon models, calipers are positioned atop CNC'd aluminium Disc Cooler fins, reducing operating temperatures by up to 35%, crucial for fully loaded rides.
