Specialized has long championed "Aero is everything," and this mantra remains the driving force behind the new Tarmac. Leveraging a wealth of optimised shapes from the FreeFoil Shape Library, inspired by Venge development, Specialized subjected these shapes to rigorous testing in the Win Tunnel. The result is a new Tarmac that's the fastest they've ever tested, boasting a staggering 45-second improvement over 40km compared to the Tarmac SL6. With no compromises, the emphasis is purely on speed.
While aerodynamics took centre stage in the Tarmac's development, weight was also a critical consideration. Traditionally, "aero bikes" sacrificed weight for reduced drag. However, with the new Tarmac, Specialized aimed to maintain or even undercut the UCI weight limit without compromising aerodynamics. Through meticulous engineering, they achieved a frame weight of just 800g, a remarkable feat that preserves aerodynamic efficiency, stiffness, and ride quality.
Continuing their pursuit of the perfect race bike, Specialized employed their Rider-First Engineered™ approach to ensure that the new Tarmac delivers unparalleled balance and handling across all frame sizes. With input from elite test riders representing Specialized's World Tour Teams, adjustments were made to optimise ride quality and handling without sacrificing the Tarmac's legendary responsiveness.
Drawing from insights gleaned from the Venge, the new Tarmac features streamlined integration for a clean, fast cockpit that's user-friendly. Enhanced routing options accommodate various configurations while preserving aerodynamic performance, making the new Tarmac both easy to maintain and travel with – a true win-win scenario.
